Gus’ GUS Synchronicity
Gus’ GUS Synchronicity
The ‘Guaranteed Underwriting Service’
In recent months, I’ve realized that what society needs is to have an Economic and Sociological Study done on what an Ecovillage - designed to be as self-sufficient as possible - would look like if it had an aggregate of homesteads that are as ecologically balanced as possible with the knowledge of Water Catchment, Permaculture, Herbalism, Nutritional Optimization, Composting, Recycling, Reduced Use, Naturopathy, and the necessary Social Structures and Professionals to provide services for the Villages’ residents - out of which would come their replacements.
Each homestead would be as self-sufficient as possible, and anything they couldn’t do for themselves would either be done at the Village Center or imported from outside. The main parameters to keep in mind would be a prioritizing of Self-Sufficiency, Ecological Self-Sustainability, and proper Economies of Scale (i.e. no Perversions of Scale, e.g. a regionally sold loaf of bread, or nation-wide sales of cookies, etc. or industry whose waste becomes ecologically polluting). These priority parameters would set the size of the Village in terms of how many homesteads will be a part of each village. Not every village will be the same size. Of course, no village can be completely self-reliant or self-sustaining; however, the goal is to try to be such, as much as possible.
The very nature of the self-sustaining paradigm will make it so that the residents of the homesteads and villages will become professionals, educated as they grow-up, in the skills needed for homestead and eco-village life. Starting as children in the ‘kinder’ part of the ‘gardens’ (a.k.a. kindergarten) everyone’s first job will be Gardener - an ecologically noble job they can do for a few years or a lifetime - providing ‘garden-to-table’ organic vegetables with respect and appreciation from everyone in their village. Gardeners can upgrade to being either Cooks’ helpers, or Herbalists preparing herbs and roots for Tinctures, Infusions, Teas, or dehydrating them for storage to be used at a later date. From there, they can add Aromatherapy to their skills, or up-grade to being Horticulturists, or Naturopaths. The main realization is that there are many jobs and professions that are naturally connected to their village lives and that segue to and from each other, so that individual persons also know that if they try something new it will already seem quite familiar to them and that they could always go back to what they did before, then segue in a different connected direction skill wise and professionally. That will go a long way to making people feel comfortable without worrying about being socially or professionally dislocated.
Recently I discovered: Guaranteed Underwriting System (GUS) , an automated system for submitting and processing Rural Development Single Family Housing Guaranteed Loans, is a part of the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Single Family Housing Guaranteed Loan Program. GUS performs applicants’ credit risk assessment, allowing lenders to make an informed lending decision. GUS utilizes a modified TOTAL scorecard and a GUS Rules Engine determined by USDA to render underwriting recommendations. While it’s only for single family dwellings, I still consider it a synchronicity regarding my homestead village project.
